Species

Only the ornamental species that are proven to be reliably frost and exposure tolerant are available.
They are E. archeri, E. coccifera, E. debeuzevillei, E. gunnii (glaucous form), E. niphophila and E. perriniana.

The Eucalypts are 2 to 3 metres high (depending on species) and have a crown width of 1 to 1.5 metres. The stem diameter at the base is 9 to 16cm, depending on species.

They have been pruned each year to keep the trees bushy and multi-stemmed. Grown in the 18 inch containers, each tree weighs approx. 120kg.

New container system enhances growth

Eucalyptus Trees Ltd. are recognised as Britain’s most reliable dedicated suppliers of Eucalypts for private and commercial uses. As the appeal of Eucalyptus has increased so too has the demand for larger, semi-mature trees but historically their development in above ground containers has been unreliable, creating leggy, shapeless plants with small stems and a reluctance to transplant successfully.

Now, with the introduction of the unique Accelerooter Knit Fabric Container System, the company has developed a robust range of semi-mature trees offering healthy, shapely growth and a natural stability during transplantation that enables the growth of excellent quality Eucalypts.

The unique fabric system restricts root expansion and encourages multiple branching within the container.  The roots retain large quantities of stored energy that supports the tremendous burst of new root growth following transplantation and dramatically reduce the stress imposed on the plant by the transplantation experience.

The system results in a more attractive plant for retail display. Flexibility in their use is increased too because the trees can be held for one season or more after lifting with drip irrigation and liquid feed based on our instructions. Our semi-mature trees are a proven formula and you also benefit  from our commitment to your success by sharing our experience and advice in the care of your plants.

Planting time

The table below is a useful guide which helps enhance the success of your Eucalypts. We have indicated the periods when you CAN receive and plant but we have also identified the premium period.  Our experience shows that trees lifted in February and March enjoy the highest success rate (almost 100%) because stress is reduced and they establish better as Spring approaches and they break dormancy.  It is important that your order is received in good time so that the trees can be lifted for you before the end of March.  They are only lifted to order so you need to plan and order in advance.

Planting and watering

Autumn planting will also require drip irrigation to replace the water lost by the tree’s evergreen leaves from continued transpiration. The root zone must also be kept moist to sustain the tree until there is the burst of new root growth in the spring. But it is equally essential to avoid over watering and water logging which will damage the roots. This fine balance between winter watering and avoiding water logging makes autumn planting less easy and is why we recommend spring planting. Although some of our customers are only able to plant in the autumn please note we do not recommend Autumn planting of Eucalypts in knit fabric containers.

Detailed planting and watering instructions are provided. This involves digging a hole at least 30 inches in diameter. Staking should be with two sturdy stakes and a crossbar. They must be on drip irrigation for their first year and correct watering is, of course, essential to their survival.
